The Shelter Structures Advantage

Tensioned fabric buildings offer many advantages over traditional buildings. They can be relocated, erected on any surface, ready in weeks, use natural light, usually do not require permits, and are easily installed. Shelter Structures buildings offer several advantages over competitors buildings. These include…

Custom Designed – Any height, any length, any width. We will work with you to meet your requirements, or help you develop requirements that best suit your application in the most cost effective manner. Read an example from our Comtech Industries Project.

Heavier, Stronger Frames – Our heavier frames allow for 20′ truss spacing, which means fewer components, more floor space and quicker erection time. Wider spacing also means that if footings are required, there are fewer of them, resulting in further savings. Read an example from our DLA Distribution-Robins AFB Project.

No ground rails to create trip hazards – The space between the trusses can be fully utilized, which creates 4 to 6 feet more interior width than shelters with ground rails. Read an example from our White Rock Quarries Project.

Stronger connections – All connections on medium and full size shelters are made with galvanized A325 structural grade bolts. Many competitors use smaller bolts of a lower grade with lower tensile strength. Read an example from our CAF Large Fabric Structure Project.

Corrosion Protection – All base plates, connection plates and tabs are hot dipped galvanized to prevent corrosion. Some competitors use unplated steel, which they coat with cold gav spray paint after welding. These can rust quickly, sometimes before erection is completed. Read an example from our RES/BP Wind Energy Project.

Longer fabric life – Our shelters are designed to have the fabric tensioned along the length and sides of our shelters. This creates the level of tension needed to prevent the fabric from billowing against the frame in winds. Many other shelters are tensioned along their length using only cable in pockets over the ends of the shelter. This does not create proper tension, and the lack of tension results in shortened fabric life. Read an example in our Naval Air Station Military Hangars Project.

Ease of Installation – Fabric is tensioned using ratchets and fabric straps. This makes it easy to achieve proper tension in the shortest possible time. Some competitors use threaded rod for tensioning fabric, which makes the process time consuming and leaves a sharp hazard which can damage the fabric which is against it. Threaded rod also makes it difficult to remove and replace the cover in case of a hurricane. Read an example from our Cannon AFB Project.

Top Quality Fabric – All of our standard fabrics are coated, not laminated. Coated fabrics are more durable and provide longer life spans. Others use laminated fabrics which are cheaper, and usually not warranted beyond 1 year. Ask for the fabric manufacturers warranty and compare. Read an example from our Port-au-Prince Post Office Project.

Engineered Drawings – If you require engineered drawings, our drawings will be stamped and signed by an engineer licensed in the State where the shelter will be erected; not the State where the shelter was manufactured. Local engineering certifications are required by most permitting agencies. Read an example from our BCR Fellsmere Project.

Green Energy Efficient Buildings -A green building is designed to focus on increasing the efficiency of resource use – energy, water, and materials, while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle. Read an example from our BCR Environmental Project.

Portability – Our portable shelters give you a fast, low-cost solution. Because of their modular construction, you can easily expand or relocate your portable building, shelter or structure when desired. Read an example from our Cerrey S.A. de C.V. Project.

Permanent & Semi-Permanent – Built with durable steel and fabric, our shelters withstand tough weather conditions, which makes them perfect if you are in need of a permanent shelter or semi-permanent shelter structure solutions. Read an example from our Beltway Bridge Project.

Relocatable Buildings – Shelter Structures offers portable buildings that are easy to relocate due to their modular construction. The fabric is light-weight, which makes our structures easy to transport and set-up in various locations. Read an example from our FMC Subsea Mobile Shelter Project.

Int’l Code II Engineering: Not all fabric structure companies comply with the International Building Code II engineering, yet it’s critical when it comes to the protection of people. Read an example from our US Army Weather Protection Project.

GSA Contract #GS-07F-9549S: We have been certified as GSA partner for military and government RFP’s. Read an example from out Air Force Warehouse Complex Project.

Flexibility in Design: We’ve seen it all. We will work with you to meet your requirements, or help you develop requirements that best suit your application in the most cost effective manner. Read an example from our Contrack Watts Project.
